I am having difficulty typing this entry as I recently hurt my left hand. We still have not figured out how I did it, but I have sprained/strained my left wrist, more specifically, my thumb and the tendons that run down to my wrist.
At first, I thought it was Carpel Tunnel Syndrome as that is a common malady at times in pregnant women. Supposedly the swelling that you experience being pregnant affects your joints, etc. On Friday, I woke up in such pain that my hubby took me to the hospital. The doctor said that I didn't have CTS, but rather De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. In plain English, it means I sprained/strained my wrist and thumb.
The funny thing about all this (you know me, always finding the humor in things) is that this condition is found mainly in people who ski a lot or who use hammers in their daily job. Um....I do neither of those on a daily basis. So it still remains a mystery how I strained my wrist. I have learned that strange things happen to your body when you are pregnant, and you just have to roll with it.
So now I am sporting a splint on my left hand so as to immobilize my wrist and thumb. I now have full empathy for those who have broken arms (never had one of those before). It's hard to do all the things of a daily lifestyle with one hand. It's been interesting.
Well, to look at the bright side of things, I am glad that this happened now and not when the baby is first born. I still have 9 weeks to heal! Whew!
